NEW YEAR'S MIND & BODY DETOX

Berea: Saturday, January 4th, 1-3 pm

Kickstart a healthy you in 2020! I’m partnering with Susan at Body Mind & Sol yoga studio. She will lead you through a detoxing yin practice by wringing out your tissues through deep and long-held yoga poses. Then sit for a 10 minute meditation to clear the mind before learning to love your liver with herbs.

The liver is responsible for 500 important bodily functions – including ushering toxins out of the body. I’ll teach you how to enhance your body’s natural detoxification systems with herbs, which can help to reduce inflammation and allergies, balance hormones and renew your skin. I’ll demonstrate several recipes during the workshop, and you’ll have a chance to make your own bath salt blend to support detoxification.

Located at Body Mind & Sol Yoga studio.

Sleep workshop with body mind & sol

Friday, October 25 – 12:30 – 1:30 pm

Berea, KY at Body Mind & Sol Yoga Studio

Sleep can sometimes be elusive. If you can’t get to sleep or can’t sleep through the night- and this is a chronic problem – it will have negative effects on your health and your daily functioning.

There are many medicinal herbs that can be used to promote a healthy, restful sleep. In this one hour lunchtime workshop, you will learn about the different types of herbs used to support sleep and how to incorporate them into your daily life. The workshop will include samples of several herbs and a 1 oz bottle of herbal tincture to take home. We will also run through a simple 20 minute yoga practice that you can do nightly before going to bed. The practice includes poses designed to relax your mind and your body and prepare you for a good night’s sleep.

KEntucky Forest farming alliance workshop hosted at our farm

Attend the first FREE Workshop of the Kentucky Forest Farming Alliance: Cultivation and Propagation of Medicinal Herbs, October 26, 2-5 pm

With Instructor John Wright of Red Beet Row. RSVP to KentuckyForestFarmingAlliance@gmail.com by October 16

This seminar aims to include the most current information on sustainable practices with a focus on efficiency, material and resource use, and propagation and cultivation practices that promote an increase in quantity and quality of community and soil.

Herbs and herbal products are more popular today as health regimes are changing. These herbal products require local market chains to distribute medicine to the people. Growers represent a major link in this chain. The aim of this class is to help transition farmers into resilient, diverse cropping systems that boost regional growth of our herbal networks and the farmers that support them.

Topics covered include:
  • Deciding what to grow in your climate
  • Planning and designing the garden and farm
  • Germinating seeds from the windowsill to the greenhouse – nursery 101
  • Timing, sizing up, watering schedules, planning
  • Preparing bed space- anticipation tactics
  • Fencing, protection, disorientation, seclusion- animal allies
  • Working with weeds- total annihilation or careful inclusion ? Control without poisons
  • Maximizing bed space and weed control through plant poly-cultures
  • Planting out, hardening off
  • Water systems, timing- working without irrigation
  • Harvesting with empathy, propagation from root cuttings and crowns
